Types of diabetes

What is diabetes and how many types of diabetes are there? According to Romania's Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases Association, more than 11 per cent of the population experience this chronic disease, and scientists' predictions are grim, as they warn that the number of people with diabetes will double by 2030.

Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body cannot use carbohydrates in the diet. Glucose is the body's main source of energy, but to reach the cells it needs pancreatic substance, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, which is responsible for keeping blood glucose levels within normal limits. Diabetes occurs, however, when the pancreas does not produce enough pancreatic substance or not at all or is not used correctly.

According to the World Health Organization, there are three types of diabetes, such as:

Type 1 diabetes

Also known as juvenile diabetes or pancreatic substance-dependent diabetes, type 1 diabetes is a form found among more than ten per cent of people experiencing the disease, especially among those under the age of 30, as in their case pancreatic pancreatic substance-producing cells are permanently destroyed, which is why pancreatic pancreatic substance production is reduced or absent.

According to experts, in the case of this disease, symptoms can appear quickly and can develop quickly, in just a few days or even weeks, in the case of children and adolescents.

Type 1 diabetes is a condition that is manifested by frequent urination, excessive thirst, unjustified fatigue, sudden weight loss and dry mouth syndrome. People suffering from this type of diabetes may also experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue or abdominal pain in the case of children.

If the disease is not controlled, people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes may experience narrowing of blood vessels due to increased blood sugar. Moreover, if blood sugar is not controlled, it can increase the concentration of blood lipids, so that atherosclerosis occurs, and blood flow through large vessels is diminished. Damage to the heart, brain, limbs, eyeballs, kidneys, nerves and skin may also occur, as well as heart failure, strokes, muscle cramps and even renal failure.

Type 2 diabetes
Also known as non-pancreatic substance-dependent diabetes, type two diabetes is the most popular form of diabetes and mainly affects people over the age of 35, but it can also occur for younger people.
Unlike type 1 diabetes, this form develops more slowly, usually over a period of several months or years, and symptoms can occur gradually, being a chronic condition that influences how the body metabolizes glucose, the body's most important fuel source.
Gestational diabetes
Another form of diabetes is gestational diabetes, also known as pregnancy diabetes, which is a temporary condition, faced between 2-10 per cent of pregnant women, due to hormonal changes that may favour pancreatic substance resistance.
Most of the time, women with gestational diabetes show no symptoms, which is why it is especially important to be tested at the right time during pregnancy. Other times, however, pregnant women experiencing this diabetes frequently feel thirsty, although sometimes they have just drunk water, they urinate very often, they experience acute hunger or blurred vision.
